Capacity Assessment
In Alberta, Capacity Assessment under the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act (AGTA) is an evaluation that assesses an individual's ability to make personal, medical, legal, and financial decisions independently. These assessments are often required when families, healthcare providers, legal professionals, or government agencies are considering whether additional decision-making supports may be necessary.
-
Any adult suspected to lack capacity and require a substitute decision maker must first undergo a Capacity Assessment.
-
This process focuses on the autonomy (that is least intrusive and least restrictive), rights and best interests (based on known wishes, values and beliefs) of the adult Albertan.
Claire is a Designated Capacity Assessor with the Alberta Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS).
Important: This assessment is only completed in-person in NW Calgary.
Please note: This assessment is not a counselling or psychological service, therefore it cannot be claimed under health benefit plans or health/wellness spending.
Please email claire@yyccounselling.com to set up an assessment intake appointment.
